YERA Hub (Youth Environmental Research and Advocacy) will present its latest research on the Revised Environmental Crime Directive: its implications and shortcomings. We are joined by experts in the field of environmental law to share their knowledge and come to new insights together.

PANEL 1- The Development of the ECD and Elements of Environmental Crimes

Prof. Dr. Michael G. Faure, a renowned legal scholar, combines academic excellence with practical experience, holding professorships at Maastricht University and the Rotterdam Institute of Law & Economics, and specializing in Comparative and International Environmental Law. His career is marked by a commitment to transnational legal research and education, further enriched by his longstanding practice as an attorney in Antwerp since 1982. His leadership roles in various legal research institutions underscore his significant contributions to the field. Micheal is a renowed scholar in the field of the Environmental Crime Directive and has been consulted as an expert by the European Parliament on it.

Roxane brings a rich background in European environmental policy and law, currently teaching at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and serving as an advisor in the European Parliament. With a focus on ecological transition and experience in municipal and NGO roles advocating for sustainable energy and ecological justice, Roxane's expertise spans from academic research to hands-on policy advocacy, making significant contributions to environmental governance and public awareness. Roxane will be representing Marie Toussaint, MEP who was shadow rapportuer during the revision of the ECD.


PANEL 2- Implementation and Transposition

Lammert van Raan's work, particularly during his tenure with the PvdD in the Dutch Parliament, underscores his dedication to environmental advocacy, focusing on ecocide legislation and sustainable policies to protect the environment. His efforts include championing bills and initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental laws, reflecting his deep commitment to addressing critical ecological issues. His background in management and economics complements his legislative work, bringing a unique perspective to the fight against environmental degradation.

Alberto Nicòtina, a PhD Fellow in Constitutional Law at the University of Antwerp, delves into comparative constitutional law within the EU, focusing on constitutional identity, populism, and EU law's legitimacy in national settings. With a Master's from the University of Trento and experience in environmental law at a Milan law firm, Alberto has also been a visiting fellow in Madrid and Copenhagen. His work includes socio-legal analyses on environmental protection and the procedural aspects of environmental democracy.


PANEL 3- Beyond Europe (Hybrid)

Fernanda Poblete, co-founder of Fundación Chile Sin Ecocidio, is a seasoned activist for human and nature's rights, with a focus on environmental harm by extractive industries and promoting ecocide as an international crime. Her diverse career includes cultural management and contributions to international technology and environmental events. Fernanda's work is instrumental in advocating for legal and policy reforms to safeguard the environment.

Marco Yáñez Marín is a passionate climate change law professional from Chile, with a diverse background in Law, Diplomacy, and International Negotiations, culminating in his role as a climate negotiator for Chile at COP26 and was a member of Chile Sin Ecocidio. His influential work includes speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, contributing to climate action leadership at COP27, and advocating for youth engagement in environmental policy.


💡 Stop Ecocide NL is experiencing increasing interest and support from young people. To spread this energy across theDutch borders, a new EU-wide initiative was set up: YERA Hub. The YERA Hub believes that young people should have the opportunity to take part in the academic debate around environmental law. The initiative aims at improving theenvironmental legal body of the EU by conducting and promoting research.
